CAST IRON COVERED ELECTRODES

HARRIS 28
Nickel-free electrode for cast iron, non-machinable

Features:
  • Tensile strength - Up to 60,000 psi
  • Close color match to cast iron (will rust)

    Packaging:
    10 lb. tube, 4 tubes per carton


  • WELDING PARAMETER:
  • AC or DC reverse polarity
  • Clean weld area
  • Use CHAMFER ARC or grind for grooving or veeing out cracks
  • Drill small holes at end of cracks to prevent spread of cracking
  • Preheat to 400ºF
  • Skip or back-step weld
  • Short deposits, no longer than 1 1/2”
  • Peen each bead while still hot
  • Hold a close arc
  • Slow cool

    Nickel-iron alloy electrode for gray and alloyed cast irons

    Features:
  • Tensile strength - Up to 72,000 psi
  • Good machinability - BHN 190-220
  • Close color match
  • Spatter free, high-density, ductile deposits


  • Packaging:
  • 5 lb tubes, 4 tubes per carton
  • Point Of Purchase - Ten 8 oz. cards of 1/8” electrodes per carton (0006561)


  • WELDING PARAMETER:
  • AC or DC reverse polarity
  • Hold a short arc
  • Clean and bevel the weld area
  • Use CHAMFER ARC for grooving
  • Tack weld cracks
  • Drill small holes at each end of cracks to stop further cracking
  • Preheat is not necessary on ductile & gray cast iron or thin sections
  • Preheat of 400ºF - 500ºF is suggested for welding heavy castings
  • Run stringer beads or slight weave
  • Skip or back-step weld
  • Short deposits, no longer than 1 1/2”
  • Peen each bead while still hot
  • Slow cool

  • Tensile strength - Up to 50,000 psi
  • Elongation - 5% in 2”
  • Excellent machinability - 150 Brinell
  • Close color match
  • Nonconductive coating (will not arc out the side)
  • Fast freezing
  • All position


  • Packaging:
    5 lb. tube, 4 tubes per carton

    WELDING PARAMETER:
  • AC or DC, reverse or straight polarity
  • Cleaning and beveling the weld area
  • Use CHAMFER ARC for grooving
  • Tack weld cracks
  • Drill small holes at each end of cracks to stop further cracking
  • Preheat is typically not necessary
  • For ultimate machinability, preheat to approximately 400ºF
  • Run stringer beads or slight weave
  • Hold a short arc
  • Skip or back-step weld
  • Short deposits no longer than 1 1/2”
  • Peen each bead while still hot
  • Slow cool

    General purpose nickel-iron alloy electrode for production, salvage and repair of all cast iron

  • Conforms to AWS A5.15, ENiFeCl

    WELDING PARAMETER:
  • AC or DC reverse polarity
  • Use CHAMFER ARC or grinding to vee out cracks
  • Preheat heavy castings to approximately 400ºF
  • Direct the arc upon deposited metal
  • Hold electrode at a slight angle in the direction of travel
  • Skip or back-step weld
  • Lightly peen between passes
  • Slow cool

    General purpose, high nickel alloy electrode for production and repair of cast iron

    Features:
  • Tensile strength - Up to 50,000 psi
  • Excellent machinability
  • All position
  • Close color match
  • Conforms to AWS A5.15, ENiCl

    Packaging:
    10 lb. tube, 4 tubes per carton

    WELDING PARAMETER:
  • AC or DC reverse or straight polarity
  • Clean the weld area
  • Use CHAMFER ARC to bevel breaks and cracks
  • Bevel deep enough so the first pass ties in the bottom of the crack
  • Preheating is typically not necessary
  • Preheat heavy sections to approximately 400ºF.
  • Hold a short arc
  • Run stringer beads
  • Skip or back-step weld
  • Peen to relieve stresses
  • Slow cool
