Harris Products Group donates $25,000 to non-profit

Mason, OH - May 16, 2011 :

The Harris Products Group recently announced it has more than doubled its prior year donation to a non-profit organization that assists children and adults with disabilities. The $25,000 donation to Abilities First will help the organization as it serves families in Southwest Ohio with speech, physical and occupational therapy, employment and pre-employment  services, residential facilities and group homes.  In addition, Abilities First offers preschool for children with autism, an early childhood learning center, and disability awareness programs the schools.

“The economic climate has caused many corporations to cut back on charitable giving.  Unfortunately, the needs of non-profits have not been cut back and they have to do more with less,” said David Nangle, president of the Harris Products Group, which has its international headquarters in Mason, Ohio.

“We have increased our previous contribution to show our support for such a worthwhile cause.  Now, with signs of an economic recovery, I’m hoping other corporations step up their contributions for organizations like Abilities First.”

Started in 1958 with eight children, the organization now serves more than 1,100 children and adults in a seven-county region including Butler, Warren, Montgomery, Hamilton, Preble, Greene, and Clark counties in Ohio.

“Harris Products Group is truly dedicated and their commitment allows us to continue our mission of helping local children and adults with disabilities. They contribute annually and are a Platinum Sponsor for our annual Golf Classic, helping us raise over $30,000 each in the last two years,” said Karen Smith, Executive Director of Abilities First.

“They have taken an active role in giving their time as well. They have seen the impact our organization has on our clients and their families for today and for their future,” she said. “We couldn’t ask for a more supportive corporate sponsor and partner.”

Nangle is calling on other local companies to become acquainted with Abilities First and their mission. He is personally contacting local companies and fellow CEOs to encourage them to participate and/or sponsor Abilities First’s 7th Annual Golf Classic, on May 6, at the Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown, Ohio. The event kicks off at 10:30 am and includes lunch and dinner. Interested participants should contact Connie Sandker connie.sandker@abilitiesfirst.org or call (513) 423-9496.
