2015 Cody Ladner Memorial Welding Award Announced

Kiln, MS - May 20, 2015 :

Congratulations to Frank Venezia, the 2015 recipient of the first Cody Ladner Memorial Welding Award. This award was created by The Harris Products Group in conjunction with Lincoln Electric as an annual award to honor the memory of Cody Ladner, a student in the HCCTC welding program who passed away in early 2014. The award, which includes all equipment required to enter the workforce or continued welding training, will be presented at the end of each school year to an outstanding senior in the program.

Since his first day in Welding 1 through his senior year as a Welding 2 student, Frank has shown great leadership in welding. Frank has excelled academically in welding by passing all of his written tests, most often with the highest score in the class. At the end of his first year, Frank earned the highest score of all Welding 1 students on his written state test. He also earned an award for the highest score overall. Frank completed all of his hands-on welding requirements for Welding 1 and 2. He represented his school at the SkillsUSA Welding Competition where he placed 3rd in region and 4th in state.

Frank has already registered for the fall 2015 Welding Program at Pearl River Community College. He plans to complete the welding program while simultaneously earning his Associates Degree. After college, Frank plans to work in the welding industry to gain the knowledge and experience needed to eventually become a Certified Welding Inspector.

In memory of Cody, Frank selflessly donated his award to his classroom so present and future students will always remember Cody.

On hand to support Frank in his acceptance of the award were Frank Venezia Sr., Chevis Necaise, Welding Instructor at HCCTC, Travis Ladner, Denise Ladner, Harris Goodwin, Lincoln Electric Technical Sales Representative, Robyn Killebrew, Pass High School Principal, Meredith Bang, Pass High School Curriculum Specialist, Beth Johns, Pass Christian School Superintendent, and Alan Dedeaux, Hancock Schools Superintendent.
