Copper Based MIG/TIG Alloys

Harris copper based alloys include bare and flux-coated low fuming bronze, silicon bronze, aluminum bronze and deoxidized copper. Copper-based alloys require a relatively high heat input with shortened welding times, higher preheat temperatures and faster welding rates than steel.

Copper-Based Alloy

Aluminum bronze alloy GMAW (MIG)/GTAW (TIG) A1 is used to weld overlays for bearing and wear resistant surfaces, but is not recommended for joining. A2 is used for joining aluminum bronze base metals, welding brass, steel and dissimilar metals.

Copper-silicon alloy GMAW (MIG)/GTAW (TIG) is used to weld similar composition base metals of steels and cast iron-to-copper, brass and bronze. Frequently used for "brass welding" of galvanized and coated sheet steel.
